Ask Kathryn: Should I Sign A Personal Injury Contingency Fee Contract Brought To Me By A Runner for a Lawfirm or Doctor?

I personally think that if you are signing a contingency fee legal contract, or any other type of contract, to hire a lawyer, that the lawyer should be physically present and in front of you.  I do not recommend signing any contracts with any "runners" or "representatives" of law firms or doctors who may come out to see you anywhere and anytime.  If you need a lawyer, schedule an appointment with a lawyer, go to their office and make sure you meet with the lawyer, (not a paralegal, case worker, or other staff member).  I found this article about personal injury "runners", it is a bit dated, but the principles and reasons to avoid runners still apply. Keep in mind that only a lawyer can give you legal advice, and that includes any questions about the contract for legal services. So a runner would be precluded from giving any legal advice unless the runner wa a lawyer.
